Often referred to as "The Jewel of the Blue Ridge," Smith Mountain Lake was created in 1966 when engineers dammed the Blackwater and Roanoke rivers, flooded Smith Mountain Gap, and began making electricity for the surrounding communities. Today, the lake is a renowned vacation destination. Join Skipper Ben Gardner for inland sailing, check today's lake levels, or find real estate on SML. Whether you're an avid sailor or a retiree looking to relocate, Smith Mountain Lake is the place for you.
